  • A species of gram-negative, aerobic BACTERIA consisting of short chains of rods. It has been isolated from the PHARYNX of healthy individuals and patients with ENDOCARDITIS. There are several recognized subspecies.

  • A species of nonmotile, aerobic, catalase-negative, asaccharolytic, oxidase-positive, urea-negative, gram-negative coccobacillus bacterium in the family Neisseriaceae. It is found in the oral bacterial flora of the human pharynx and throat. In rare cases N. elongata is a causative agent of bacterial endocarditis.
