  • An indolocarbazole glycoside antineoplastic antibiotic isolated from the bacterium Saccharothrix aerocolonigenes. Rebeccamycin intercalates into DNA and stabilizes the DNA-topoisomerase I complex, thereby interfering with the topoisomerase I-catalyzed DNA breakage-reunion reaction and initiating DNA cleavage and apoptosis.
